BS1B - BACK TO THE BEGINNING

Our first parents once knew real and close fellowship with God. They were happy and satisfied in the garden that God had made for them. But the fallen angel Satan and his rebellious followers (who were meant to serve God) brought evil into this world by deceiving our first parents into doing the one thing that God asked them not to do.

Because God had given men and women free-will, this “one thing” was their test as to whether they would choose to continue to live in fellowship with God or “do their own thing” – which is what all sin is.
Genesis 3:1-7

God made humans not only with a body and a soul (mind, will, & emotions), but a spirit as well. This spirit was where God’s Spirit dwelled within us. But all sin –that is ultimately against God—makes us dirty and an unfit place for God to live. Adam and Eve suddenly knew they were naked (Genesis 3:7). They felt dirty and so what did they do when God called for them?
Genesis 3:8-11

This was the start of a long spiral down – not only for Adam and Eve – but for the entire race of men and women that would come from them.  Sin, that started with disobedience towards God, has kept getting passed along generation after generation. And because we have inherited Adam and Eve’s nature as humans it means we all just naturally do what they did – sin.

In a relatively short period of time what did God see in all humans?
Genesis 6:5

Most of us protest at this. We feel we are basically “good people” with a few flaws. But Isaiah, one of God’s prophets, prophesied about this attitude that so many of us have. What have we all become?
Isaiah 64:6

WHO did the prophet Micah say had perished from the earth?
Micah 7:2

SIN is the cause for the mess the world is in today. This is what SIN means for us:
S=Separation from God (or spiritual death)
I= Independence from God (we no longer walk through life together and we do our own thing)
N=No Relationship with God (we are on our own).

Can you imagine what our Creator must have felt to know that Adam and Eve had chosen to live by “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” instead of in fellowship with Him?
