BS5B - JESUS ACCEPTED WORSHIP

Luke 5:9-11
The Magi
Let’s step back in time to Christ’s birth. There had been three royal astrologers (called Magi or wisemen) that had traveled to Jerusalem to find a newborn king of the Jews. What where they planning to do when they found Him?
Matthew 2:2
The stars had aligned so that they knew it was time for a world-wide ruler to be born. And so, they followed that star until it brought them to Bethlehem and stopped over the place where the child was. What did they do when they entered the house and saw the child with his mother?
Matthew 2:11
We can only imagine how Mary must have “treasured these things in her heart”!
The Angels
God the Father had sent Jesus (God the Son) to earth so that all of us could see for ourselves what God is like. Who does the author of Hebrews say that Jesus is superior to?
Hebrews 1:4
What did God therefore command of the angels who exist to serve Him?
Hebrews 1:6
The Disciples
Let’s return to Christ’s disciples. They had been following Jesus for some time now and still trying to figure him out. After days of ministering to the crowds Jesus needed time alone with His Father and so he sent His disciples on ahead of Himself. What was happening to his disciples?
Matthew 14:22-24 (especially verse 24)
The disciples were now in panic mode because the winds and waves threatened to drown them all. And probably just when they thought all was lost what did they see?
Matthew 14:25-26
When this ghost finally climbed into their boat, what happened?
Matthew 14:32
This ghost was their Rabbi Jesus! What did they then do and say?
Matthew 14:33
Mary Magdalene and the Other Mary
Jesus had just died a most brutal death by crucifixion and had been buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb. Then, all settled down because it was the Sabbath. But as soon as it was dawn (meaning the Sabbath was over) what happened?
Matthew 28:1-8
While Mary and Mary were hurrying to tell the disciples, what “suddenly” happened? And just as suddenly what was their response?
Matthew 28:9
The Disciples
Jesus had risen from the dead and for forty days He had been back on earth reassuring His disciples that all was well. Everything that had happened had been according to plan. But now it was time for Jesus to return to His Father in Heaven. So, while He was blessing them for the last time, He was also being lifted up to Heaven.
Luke 24:50-51
How did the disciples respond?
Luke 24:52-53
We know that most men would recoil at being worshipped, but in all these examples did Jesus try to stop them from worshipping Him? No. He accepted their worship and the implication was that it was His due. As the disciples had said after the storm, “Truly you are the “Son of God”. Jesus is God, just as His Father is God and worship is the only acceptable response we can make to God.
